Join the EGU database of expertise
In the context of its science for policy programme, the EGU is creating a database to identify expertise within the Union that can be called upon to respond to events of geoscientific relevance. The EGU’s database of expertise allows its members to be updated with the current opportunities to share their scientific knowledge. If you would like to be included in the database, please fill in the form below. By registering for this database you may be emailed from time to time with requests to respond to specific events.
If you are interested in science policy and would be willing to contribute your scientific knowledge to policy activities then please sign up for the EGU Database of Expertise.
Register on the European Commissions' H2020 Database of Experts
As part of the Horizon 2020 scheme the European Commission has created a database of scientific experts. Individuals who register may be contacted to contribute to “research and innovation assignments including the evaluation of proposals, monitoring of projects, and evaluation of programmes, and design of policy”. More information about the types of expertise the European Commission are looking for can be found in here.
Potential experts are asked to apply via the Participant Portal where they must state their personal details, areas of expertise and professional experience. For more information or to register as an expert please sign up for the European Commission Database of Experts.
Attend a Science Policy Event
There are many opportunities for scientists to learn more about science policy by attending events that focus on science within a wider context. The EGU regularly updates a list of upcoming events which focus on science within a policy context. Example event organisers include the European Commission, academic institutions and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) as well as the EGU. Workshops, open discussion sessions, conferences and seminars are some examples of possible event structures.
Science Policy Internships
Early Career Scientists considering a career in policy can apply for a science-policy internship. The EGU has tried to assemble a list of globally available science policy internships. The individual countries listed do not reflect the required nationalities for applications, but the country in which the internship is based. Please note this is an incomplete list. If you know of any other science policy internship that is missing then please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
