Job Description

The Environmental-Physics group at the Centre for Applied Geoscience (University of Tübingen, Germany) studies turbulent atmospheric flows using small automatically operating unmanned air-craft (UAV) and ground-station networks. Our main interests are the turbulent energy and momen-tum exchange between the earth surface and the lower atmosphere (boundary-layer meteorology), and the interaction of turbulent flows with wind turbines and orography. We develop fast meteoro-logical sensors, calibration methods and software for data analysis.

Currently, we are looking for a researcher (PhD student) who will support us in the
field of measurement technology, especially for our ground-based instruments:

Meteorologist, Physicist, or Engineer

The position is embedded in a new DFG-funded research project in the fields of atmospheric physics, measurement technology and gas sensors.

The tasks for the position and in the working group include:

  • further development and maintenance of our sensor systems (with focus on gas sensors, calibration, data aquisition, wire-less transmission, data base, sensor network)
  • improvement and further development of the analysis software (R language)
  • conducting own research and publication (conferences, journals)
  • supervision of student researchers

The ideal candidate studied atmospheric science, physics, electronics, or informatics with a strong experimental focus and has already experience in:

  • environmental measurement technology and sensors, microcontroller programming
  • data analysis and statistics in atmospheric science and flux measurement
  • Linux and R, C or C++ , Python programming

The position is available from now on and will be open until filled. Salary will be according to the German public service (75 % of TVL E13). Initially, the position is limited to 36 months but may be extended further. In case of equal qualification and experience physically challenged applicants are given preference.
